May 12, of the year 1999, was the day that my parents', Ignacio and Maria Montana, first child was born in Lindsay, California. This child was born in a family that had Mexican roots and lived in a Mexican culture. His first language was Spanish that then followed by learning a second language, English. As this child grew up, unaware of how life was, he would see how hard his parents had to work just to get food on the table. His parents had migrated to the United States from Mexico only a few years before being born.
Not only that, but this child had a health condition called intoeing that prohibited him from being able to walk correctly. This meant that his parents would also have to pay doctors so that they would be able to treat his condition and pay for the equipment expenses. He was able to walk correctly after spending years using braces on his feet. Also, he happens to be the oldest child out of 6 in the family. Isabelle, Daniel, Edith, Emily and Oscar are his siblings. Due to that child being born in Lindsay, he doesn't have a lot of opportunities, in terms of finding a good temporary job and getting a good education, when compared to living in a big city. The town that the child was born in, has increased in population so now it is a small city. There may not be a lot of opportunities in terms of getting a good education or having a good job here, but he does try to make the most of it. Diego Montana, the child referred here, comes from a low income family. However, that had taught him that things do not come easily and that you must work for it. He started to work at the age of 8 and learned the value of money and the appreciation of life. As you can all guess by now, that child was me. I was the one who grew up in Lindsay. But as the older child/sibling, it is very important for me to be a good role model for my siblings. This is one of the main reasons why I am so dedicated in school and work hard to get what I want. I really want to go to college and make my parents proud; but, not only that, I want to prove to myself that through good and bad times, I still can be successful no matter what. I know that if I work hard and be dedicated in what I do, then I know I will accomplish my dream of going to college and succeeding in life. |
